I like how the stump makes the mountains compete for the viewers attention. Many shots are overwhelmed with the sheer power the mountains. But, because the the stump is so twisted (and highlighted thanks to the b&w) it takes some of the focus away from the mountains, paradoxically making them much more beautiful.
